Altium essentials - Lesson 2 - Warnings
Rambo2137 , 07-07-2026, 10:10 PM
Hello,I just finished lesson 2 of Learn Altium Essentials course, and after validating the project, i have many warnings showing. Most of them are regarding missing footprints, and there are 4 warnings regarding floating power objects. Should I care about them, or just go on with the course? Floating power objects warnings are pointing to the pads that are directly connected to the GND or VIN ports. Thanks in advance.

🤖 In the meantime, here’s a response from the [FEDEVEL AI HW Assistant]().It helps to find relevant resources for your question, but it may make mistakes as it’s still in early development. This is the response from the AI Assistant:Let's break this down based on the course materials:**Missing Footprint Warnings** These should be resolved before proceeding. The course shows multiple times that components require explicit footprint assignments. In Lesson 2 content:1. Footprints must be manually linked to schematic symbols in the library2. You need to update schematic sheets after adding footprints3. Unresolved footprints will block PCB layout workThe video demonstrates this process explicitly: *"Add button > Browse > Select footprint > Update Schematic Sheets"* [Example from footprint assignment tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxYbIGV9_CY&t=3006)**Floating Power Objects** This is more nuanced. The materials show:- Power ports (like GND/VIN symbols) should be explicitly placed, not just implied through pad connections- Warnings may appear if power nets aren't properly defined with power port symbols- Direct pad connections to ports might not be recognized as valid power connectionsWhile you could technically proceed, I recommend:1. Verify all power nets have dedicated power port symbols (not just net labels)2. Check if GND/VIN ports are actually floating (unconnected) vs properly tied to components3. Use Design > Validate to recheck after fixesThe course emphasizes: *"Don't ignore violations - they often indicate real issues that compound later"* [PCB rule checking example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7GP6NZs0Ok&t=1917)**Recommendation**: Fix footprints first (critical for PCB import), then address power warnings.

If your power nets are truly connected correctly through pads, you might suppress those specific warnings via Design Rule settings, but better to resolve them properly. You can continue chatting with the AI Assistant here:https://fedevel.com/hw-assistant

The How to fix video suggested by. AI should help you to understand how to find out what exactly the problems are

I was able to fix the floating power object warnings, however I cant fix the "footprint cannot be found" warnings with the methods in the video, since footprint library is yet to be created in the next lesson, I think. Should I just go on, until we create the footprints, and then try to resolve the problem?

All the warnings regarding footprints have been solved with the 3rd lesson
