Query from youtube video

Satyaveer Singh Rawat , 04-06-2024, 04:28 PM
Dear all please take the reference of youtube video link shared here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpgTud1iQ-4) between 22:00 Min to 23:00 Min. For ready reference I am attaching the screenshot of the same. Question is that "if white square of the pin is not touching the grid line then what could be the consequences and I get to know this fact after successfully completing the Arduino Board project. So should I change all those component schematics?

Q: "...what could be the consequences..."
A: 1) Robert already mentions it just before 23:00 - you get off grid error messages.
2) Even more problematic is that you may think a connection is mode, but it is not. If you zoom in to the connection, you may see that the line does not toch the pin. The standard snapping of Altium may prevent a lot of these problems.

Always best to have the grid to 100 mil in schematic and symbols. Only deviate from it when drawing the finer details if the symbol. Pins should always be on a 100mil grid, just as the symbols on the schematic.

As said you get off grid errors. I often ignore those, but the reason why they exist is that you may not have a connection when you think you have. If you know your connection is fine you can just ignore them. But of course it is always good to keep grid same be it mil or mm.

In my opinion you should not ignore them, but fix them.

In general yes that's good practise, i personally have them sometimes since i share altium library with someone else who often uses mm while i use mil and yes it isn't good.

I see. One of the reasons I say that the schematic should be done in mils. There is no benefit in using mm for the schematic as there is no need for "scale".

I agree. But if someone else has done it already, i have no control over it.

Try educating them.
