Information about component orientation on tape

mulfycrowh , 01-01-2024, 10:50 PM
Hi everyone,

There is currently no way from Digikey or Mouser or ... to get the information about component orientation on tape.
Consequently there is no way to get the information in Altium.
Furthermore the rotation inside the Pick & Place file generated by Altium is linked to the orientation of the footprint in PCB library.

All this means that the manufacturers for assembly have to enter manually the rotation to be applied by the PNP machine for each component.

Do you agree with that?

often the component datasheet will explain the orientation in the tape. but assembly house will always check it before inserting into the feeders - just to be sure

I believe all this is part of the setup process, I have never worried about that.

As @Robert Feranec mentioned, this information is often in the datasheet or in separate packaging documentation from the manufacturer.
It will not help to draw the shape as it appears in the tape as the way the pick and place machines need the data varies.
