This course guides through the building process of widely used Yocto Project version 3.1 Dunfell, which is a Long Term Support release, as of 2024 still active and supported by Yocto community. Many aspects of building process are similar to the other versions, thus this tutorial will help to get familiar with other releases as well.

The software in the course is prepared for two separate boards with different hardware architecture: for an official NXP evaluation kit (EVK) for i.MX 8M CPU processor - a single board computer (SBC), and for the iMX8M Industrial Development Kit from VOIPAC - a system comprised of a Computer on Module (COM) and a carrier board. The development kits are not included in the course price, however the tutorial shows where they can be purchased.

In the course the firmware is built for an ARM powered i.MX 8M processor by NXP. However it is also very applicable to other members of the i.MX processor family as well as for different CPUs running Linux OS built using Yocto Project.

The main purpose of these training sessions is to provide a step-by-step guide to go through Yocto Project building essentials in a dense format. As the software modifications are very diverse in its nature, this tutorial focuses more on aspects which are similar for any embedded system deployment. The course discusses the main framework and structure of Yocto system, helping to better understand the environment and to be able to make custom changes.

Hardware is not required but can be useful to learn the porting procedures and to test the created images. The NXP and VOIPAC development kits can be further utilized for learning, exploring or building a brand new product.

The course consists of 6 lessons. The total length of the course is approximately 1:15 h, tailored for the professionals with tight schedule.

To get a certificate for this course, you need to complete certificate requirements. Each lesson has some activities listed below the video. To get the certificate, you need to work on these activities and make at least one screenshot from each activity (ideally 1 - 5 screenshots). Then upload these screenshots to our portal under each lesson and send them for evaluation.
